Turkey is proud to be the original home of the gulet. Originally the working ships of fishermen and sponge divers, gulets have been metamorphosed into luxury motor sailors. They are deal for crewed yacht charters. Now found across the Mediterranean but most commonly in Turkey and Croatia, gulets are now incredibly popular.
We cannot recommend a gulet yacht charter more highly. These yachts offer ample space, both internally and outside on deck. All the cabins are en suite. Dining areas can comfortably cater for the whole group. Front decks have plenty of shade as well as sunbathing areas. Gulets are ideal for larger groups of guests. Most commonly, 6 – 12 guests can be accommodated on board. However there are a selection of gulets that can host up to 16 guests. Tandem charters are also very popular for big family or friends reunions. Some gulets are able to sail (if the boat is fitted for that and if the weather permits). A large number of gulets were on show at the annual TYBA Yacht Show held in Gocek. It was a fantastic opportunity to see a selection of the yachts available to the charter market. It also meant we could meet their wonderful crews. The attending gulets varied in size, style, make and age. The range on offer was very striking. Just in one marina you could see everything from classical, traditional gulets to ultra-modern gulets with every variety and type in between. And then each one comes with its own individual style and charm. There really is something to please everyone’s tastes.
Below are three gulets that demonstrate the scope of the humble gulet. They are a good example of how diverse those boats can be and how everyone’s tastes, be they modern or classical, can be met when chartering a Turkish gulet.
Beyaz Lale is a fantastic example of a traditional gulet. Built in 1995 and refitted in 2021, Beyaz Lale has a classical wooden interior with some stylish updates. Dark wooden interiors are married with softer paler furnishings in the form of cream carpets and sofas and crisp white linen. The overall effect is to give Beyaz Lale a warm and welcoming, but also fresh and spacious feel. The crew of four have put in a huge amount of effort to surprise guests with heartfelt touches. Such as handwritten notes and hand-picked hand-crafted throws. The result is that Beyaz Lale feels like a home away from home.
The deck area showcases how much outside space is available on a gulet, more so than on other yacht types such as catamarans and motor yachts. An expansive teak deck offers space for outside seating and lounging. The perfect space to spend time with family and friends.

Queen of Makri is a great example of a classical gulet that has been beautifully and consciously refitted to blend traditional style harmoniously with more modern styling. The classic brown wooden walls have been removed. In their stead, white walls instantly create a very light, bright and airy space. The classical wooden interiors of a gulet have not been forgotten. Throughout the interiors a beautiful wooden floor is a fantastic nod to the heritage of the gulet. The styling of the cabins, panelled walls and warm, textured wallpapers give one the feeling of staying in a boutique hotel. This style continues into the elegantly finished marble ensuite bathrooms which are light and luxurious.
Outside, the deck areas offer space in both the sun and shade. Sitting under the shade is super comfortable for daydreaming and offers ever changing views while under way.
